This parcel lies on the border of Santenay with Chassagne-Montrachet and is particularly windy. The wind helps keep the grapes healthy as they ripen and ensures an excellent maturity. Most of the soil here is clay/limestone with a chalky rock subsoil which lends finesse and a mineral note to the wine. The rest is made up of white marl which gives the wine structure, tannins and roundness.
The parcel is entirely grassed. This deprives the vines of surface water, forcing the roots deep into the subsoil and thus substantially reducing the risk of disease.
