Marquis d'Angerville's Jewel Of The Jura

Marquis d’Angerville has become synonymous with great Burgundy. The wines are renowned for their complexity, silky texture, and immense aging potential. So you can imagine how momentous it was, in 2012, when, Guillaume d’Angerville, the third-generation proprietor of one of the greatest Burgundy estates debuted a wine from outside of Burgundy. Guillaume found his way to the Jura through mistaking a Juran Chardonnay in a blind tasting for that of a Burgundian Chardonnay, in 2007. He only knew the Jura as a placed he and his family passed through on their way to a ski holiday.

Trois Cépages 2018

Domaine du Pélican’s inaugural release, in 2012, was a Pinot Noir-based blend—called Trois Cépages—and a Chardonnay. As the name suggests, Trois Cépages is a blend of three grapes—Pinoit Noir (60%), Trousseau (35%,) and Poulsard (5%)—and is aged in used Burgundy barrels and large foudres. The 2018 is a beautiful representation of Juran wines.

Chardonnay 2018

It is sourced from several different parcels of vineyards located in Arbois and Montigny-les- Arsures. The vineyards sit mostly on hill tops, over marly soils. Their altitude is the highest of the estate - close to 400m in elevation.

After harvest, the grapes are lightly crushed and then immediately pressed. Fermentation takes place in barrels and foudres. Aging is in 350L and 500L barrels (of which 5% are new) for about 30% of the crop. The balance is in foudre and vats.
