The 2019 Baron’Ugo Toscana Rosso is Monteraponi’s flagship wine, produced from a single south-facing vineyard at over 500 meters elevation, first planted in 1975. Made entirely from Sangiovese, it undergoes spontaneous fermentation in cement and ages for three years in large Slavonian oak casks before bottling without filtration. The altitude and galestro soils contribute to the wine’s firmness and length, while the extended élevage builds complexity and depth without sacrificing precision. Baron’Ugo stands apart from the estate’s Chianti Classico bottlings, offering a more vertical and concentrated expression of Radda. It is not shaped to a style but to a place, and speaks most clearly through its structure, clarity, and persistence. The wine opens with aromas of red cherry, dried herbs, and crushed stone, leading to a palate that is focused, savory, and long.
